The annual review is an opportunity to give constructive feedback and set new goals in line with the company's strategy. It can be based on an annual review assessment grid.

What is an annual performance review?

It allows you to take stock, motivate the employee, and congratulate them on their work. The purpose of the annual review is to assess the employee's performance.

What are the three steps of an annual performance review?

Request a demo

This annual review meeting must follow a clearly defined procedure in order to ensure its effectiveness.

1 - Employee performance review

During the annual review, the manager begins by reviewing the tasks that have been completed. Have the objectives been achieved? A numerical analysis of the results allows for an assessment of the past year.

2 - Planning new objectives

Following this assessment, the N+1 sets new objectives and defines related action plans. If necessary, they may propose training courses.

3 - Exchange between manager and employee

According to a study by APEC[1], seven out of ten employees believe that this is a useful time for them (71%). Managers and employees can discuss all kinds of topics.

Example of a professional goal for an annual review

For example, for a sales profile, the manager can set a percentage increase in turnover or the acquisition of X new customers.

Good to know! Goals must be SMART.

According to this method, set goals:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Reachable
  • Realists
  • Time-limited

→ Streamline your annual performance reviews with annual review management software.

Some examples of closing sentences for an annual employee review

It is essential to end this interview on a positive note:

  • "To conclude this interview, I would like to thank you for all your hard work. The department is fortunate to have an employee like you."
  • "Our conversation is coming to an end. Would you like to discuss any other topics?"
  • "Thank you for the quality of our discussions. I will take care of your internship application for the start of the academic year."
